Site Feast

The event

At RAAR we see site supervision as more than keeping deadlines, solving junctions or checking finishes. A building site is a collective process.

Architects, builders, trades and owners work for months around the same project. The result also depends on everyone understanding what is being built and feeling part of the same team. So, halfway through the process, we decided to stop for an afternoon.

We set up a table among the scaffolding, lit the barbecue in a wheelbarrow and gathered the people making the project possible. Workers, architects, builders and owners shared food, music and conversation where, a few hours earlier, they had been working.

Work hard. Have fun.

We take building work very seriously. Execution, details and finishes are essential. But a good result does not depend only on plans, meetings or inspections. It depends on people.

We like to know the people who build our projects, listen to their experience and create an atmosphere where everyone feels their work is part of something shared. When there is trust and everyone pushes in the same direction, the architecture improves. Being professional and having a good time are not at odds.

The pool session

The pool had no water yet. So for a few hours it stopped being a pool. RAAR set up a vinyl DJ set inside the basin and turned an unfinished part of the site into the stage of the afternoon.

Speakers, records, tools, workers and friends shared the same space. Places start to live long before they are finished.

Building community

Architecture is built with materials. Building sites, with people. Site Feast comes from caring for that second part: building community among those who design, build and will finally live in the project.

The party was not separate from the work. It was part of the work: a moment to step out of the usual roles, share a table and remember that we were all part of the same process.

Good buildings need good teams. Working together. Eating together. Celebrating together. And the next day, back to the site.

RAAR Arquitectura took care of the architecture, the site supervision, the organisation and the vinyl DJ set. RCGO provided the builder and the construction team; the owners took part in the gathering.
