The event
In January 2026, RAAR wanted to present Espai CO38 in a different way. Instead of showing it only as a finished architecture project, we decided to activate it: to fill it with works, light, music and people, and let these new layers explain the space.
For one evening, the apartment recently designed and built by RAAR in Barcelona became a group exhibition of emerging artists and designers linked to Barcelona. A home conceived from the start as a flexible container for art, life and events thus became the stage for its first cultural experience.

Architecture as a backdrop
Architecture stepped into the background to become a backdrop, which is how we understand it in much of our work. The rooms of CO38 hosted painting, photography, installation and lighting design, creating a route in which the works spoke with the materials, the textures and the atmosphere of the project.
Light played a particularly important role. The CO38 project works with a serene materiality—marble, wood, microcement and the existing Catalan vault—wrapped in warm lighting designed to bring out the character of each material. That night, the same architecture became the background against which new forms of light, objects and interventions appeared.
All of it, with music by Lucas Delgado, turned the exhibition into more than a project presentation: a meeting of architecture, art, design and people.
A space that stays alive
A space does not end when the building work ends. It begins when things happen inside it.
Espai CO38 was born as a domestic architecture able to adapt and transform. This first exhibition was a way of taking that idea one step further: turning the project into a meeting place, giving space to new creators and understanding architecture as the backdrop for experiences yet to happen.
