REBUILD

MO23 is one of our most distinctive projects: a complete transformation of an old artisan workshop located inside a long, prism-shaped industrial warehouse in the heart of Barcelona. The intervention reimagines this former workspace as a three-level home with a rooftop terrace, preserving the character of the original building while introducing a new domestic dimension.
The aim is to retain the essence of the past—its raw texture, its structural clarity, its generous proportions—while adapting the space to contemporary living. The result is a unique hybrid: a dwelling deeply rooted in its industrial origins yet reinterpreted through warmth, light and carefully crafted spatial sequences.

The project builds upon the existing spatial logic of the warehouse, highlighting its defining elements: structural porticos, metal floor slabs and open, continuous spaces. These features are preserved and enhanced, forming the backbone of the new home. A vertical core located on the central part, conceived with warmer materials such as wood, stitches the three levels together and introduces a softer domestic tone within the industrial shell.
Light plays a central role. The main brick façade anchors the project to the street, while the rear patio brings in gentle west light that floods the interior. The architecture embraces these contrasts—open versus enclosed, raw versus refined—to create a home that feels both robust and intimate.

The new home is structured across three levels that stretch between the main brick façade and the rear patio. The ground floor concentrates the primary living functions: an open-plan living–dining–kitchen area welcomes the natural light from the façade, while the vertical circulation core articulates the space. Towards the back, in direct dialogue with the patio’s west light, the main bedroom is positioned to ensure both privacy and a strong connection with the exterior.
The first floor, conceived as a mezzanine, hosts two flexible open rooms. One overlooks the main living space, reinforcing the industrial character and vertical continuity of the original warehouse, while the other maintains a visual relationship with the master bedroom below. The basement level accommodates a second en-suite bedroom and a generous storage area, both linked directly to the lower portion of the patio.
