Espai Co-38 explores the act of cohabiting, reinterpreting coexistence in an architectural gesture that balances the intimate and the shared. In the heart of Barcelona, the home unfolds as a sequence of spaces that dialogue with each other, where the private is collected in rooms of practically identical conditions and the common opens up in a spacious, bright core, designed for encounters. Cook, work, talk, live. Daily activities are intertwined in a continuous space that welcomes without imposing, letting natural light filter the life inside. The main façade acts as a threshold, connecting the interior with the city, while the design invites fluid and spontaneous interaction. More than a place to live, Espai Co-38 proposes a way of being. A slow pace in the midst of urban density, a refuge that does not isolate, but unites. An architecture that does not delimit, but rather suggests.

At Espai Co-38, the challenge has been to merge the concept of cohabitation with the essence of a century-old building, respecting its original structure while introducing a new way of living in a community. The organization of the wet cores has been done delicately, connecting the new elements with the pre-existing facilities without altering the fluidity of the space. The rooms, conceived as private nuclei, are distributed with balance, respecting the condition of dimensional equality between them. Thus, another of the architectural challenges of the project is achieved, ensuring that coexistence is developed under the concept of horizontality.
The project takes shape as a program for five users that distributes five en-suite rooms, each with its own private bathroom with natural light coming in thanks to the side and rear patio of the building. In addition to intimate spaces, all the functions necessary to live comfortably and efficiently have been considered. A courtesy bathroom, a washing and drying area, and a coworking area, designed to facilitate teleworking, complete the set. The kitchen, open to the living room, connects with an adjoining room for storage, where each user has their own space within shared furniture. Everything has been designed to balance the private with the collective, creating an environment where every need is taken care of.
